Started in 2023 by Tony Gentile, run out of James Island, and still small enough that you get Tony on the phone. Call or text any day of the week.
Tony Gentile started Family Trash in 2023, after years in the towing and limo business. He kept noticing dumpsters on every job, watched how fast Charleston was building and tearing down, and figured he could do it better by keeping it simple.
He still answers his own phone, and most days he's the one who drops your dumpster and comes back for it. Call the number and you get Tony, his wife Toni, or her sister Tracy. No phone tree, nobody on hold.
"Around here, how you treat people matters. That's how we run our business."
He's been in Charleston about forty years and his kids grew up here, so when you tell him where you want the can, he usually already knows the street. That local knowledge is half the job, especially downtown, where a dumpster has to fit between two houses that sit close together.
Family Trash rents roll-off dumpsters, and that's the whole business. Four sizes, from a 7-yard built for concrete and dirt up to a 22-yard for a full renovation, plus a flatbed for moving equipment or materials. We deliver, you load on your own time, and we haul it off.
Where the name came from is no mystery. It's family-owned, the family's been in town a long time, and the first thing most people are hauling out is their own family's stuff. Tony's greeting on the phone is "let's talk some trash." It stuck.
