Roll-Off Dumpster Sizes and Uses

A roll-off dumpster is the open-top container that rides in on a truck and gets set right on your driveway. The truck rolls it off, you fill it on your own time, and we roll it back on and haul it away. For a cleanout or a renovation, it beats stacking debris by the curb or making run after run to the dump.

Here's how the sizes break down at Family Trash, and how to pick the one that fits your job.

The four sizes, and what they're for

We run four roll-off sizes plus a flatbed. The trick is matching the size to the work so you're not paying for space you don't use or running out of room halfway through.

The 7-yard is the heavy-load can. It's the only size built for concrete, dirt, brick, and roofing tear-off, the dense material that's too heavy for the bigger containers. It rides low to the ground, so it's easy to load by hand or wheelbarrow.

The 13-yard is the one most homeowners want. It fits a single driveway and handles a garage cleanout, a yard full of brush, or a bathroom remodel. For most projects around the house, it's the easy default.

The 17-yard is the step up, with more room for a bigger remodel, a larger cleanout, or a contractor's day of debris. The 22-yard is our largest, sized for a full renovation or new build. Charleston lots are tight, and a 30-yard often won't fit between two downtown houses, so the 22 is the practical maximum for a lot of jobs here.

The one rule worth knowing

Heavy, dense material goes in the 7-yard only. Concrete, dirt, rock, sod, brick, and roofing are too heavy for the weight limits on the 13, 17, and 22. Keep a 7-yard load clean and it goes to the recycle plant instead of the landfill. If your project has both heavy debris and regular junk, the move is to rent a 7 for the heavy stuff and a 13 for everything else.

A few things can't go in any of our cans: batteries, chemicals, and electronics. Those have to be handled separately. If you're not sure about something, just ask when you book.

What's included

Delivery, pickup, and disposal are all included in the price, along with the weight allowance for your size. Rentals run from one day up to 30, and if you fill up before the job's done, we'll swap the full can for an empty one. You don't need to be home for the drop or the pickup, just tell us where you want it.
