How Roll-Off Dumpsters Can Help with Post-Event Cleanup: Festivals, Weddings, and More

Family Trash roll-off dumpster in the Charleston area

Anybody who has run an event in Charleston knows the cleanup is its own job. The wedding ends, the band packs up, and suddenly you are staring at a tent full of folding chairs, broken-down boxes, and bag after bag of trash that the venue's two small cans can't hold. A roll-off dumpster sitting on site means you have one place to put all of it, and it leaves with you when the job is done.

We rent dumpsters here at Family Trash, based on James Island. If you are coordinating a festival on the peninsula, a wedding out on Wadmalaw, or a block party in Mount Pleasant, here is how to think about the dumpster side of it.

Why a dumpster beats the pile of bags

The default plan for most events is to stack trash bags by the curb and hope the regular pickup catches up. For a small backyard party that works. For anything bigger it falls apart fast. Bags tear, raccoons find them, and your venue or HOA is not thrilled to see forty of them sitting out for three days.

A roll-off gives you a single container that holds everything. Tables get wiped, decorations come down, the catering team breaks down their setup, and it all goes in one spot. When the rental is up, we haul it off and handle disposal. You are not making trips to the county convenience center in your own truck the morning after.

It also keeps your timeline clean. We drop the container before the event and pick it up after, so your crew has a place to work the whole time instead of waiting on a hauler to show up mid-teardown.

Matching the size to the event

Event trash is usually light and bulky. Think cardboard, food packaging, plastic sheeting, broken decor, and a lot of bagged waste. That is exactly what our bigger containers are built for. The 17 and 22-yard sizes handle high volume without weighing much, which is what you want when the load is mostly air and packaging.

For a smaller wedding or a private party, the 13-yard is often plenty and takes up less of your parking lot or driveway. If your event is tiny, like a graduation cookout or a small reception, the 7-yard has a low profile and tucks into tight spots.

One thing worth saying up front. The 7-yard is our size for heavy, dense material like concrete, dirt, and brick. Event cleanup almost never involves that, so for festival and wedding trash you are looking at the larger containers. If you are not sure which one fits your crowd, you can look at all our dumpster sizes or just call and describe the event.

What you can throw in

For most events the answer is simple. Bagged trash, cardboard, paper goods, broken tables and chairs, tent stakes, plastic decor, floral waste, and the wood from any temporary builds all go in fine. If your event involved a small remodel of the space beforehand, drywall and lumber are fine too in the 13 and up.

A few things cannot go in any dumpster, including ours. Batteries, chemicals, and electronics have to be handled separately, so keep those out of the bin. If your event used propane tanks, paint, or anything with a power cord, set those aside. We have a full breakdown of what goes in a dumpster if you want to check before the day arrives.

Timing it around your event

The biggest favor you can do yourself is book early. Charleston's event season gets busy, especially in spring and fall, and you want the container on site before guests arrive, not the morning of. We rent for anywhere from one day to thirty, so you can have it dropped a day ahead, keep it through teardown, and let us grab it once everything is clear.

For multi-day festivals that fill a container fast, we can swap it out partway through so you never run out of room. That keeps the grounds clean between days instead of letting trash stack up.

We serve Charleston and the towns around it, roughly a forty-mile reach from James Island. If you want to confirm we cover your venue, here are the towns we serve.

How to set it up

When you call, have a rough idea of three things: the date range, where the container can sit, and how big the event is. That last one helps us steer you to the right size. We will talk through placement so the truck has room to drop and retrieve it without tearing up a lawn or blocking a driveway.

Tony answers the phone seven days a week, so you are talking to someone who actually knows the equipment, not a call center. If you have an event coming up and want to sort out the cleanup ahead of time, call or text (843) 800-0689 and we will get you set.
