What Goes In

What You Can Put in a Charleston Dumpster

Most of what comes out of a house or a job site is fine. Here's the short version, plus the few things to keep out. Not sure about something? Just ask when you book.

Most household and construction debris is fine to load: furniture, household junk, wood, drywall, yard brush, roofing-free remodeling debris, and general cleanup. Fill the can to the rim. The two things worth knowing are where heavy material goes and the short list we can't take.

The short version

  • Goes in any can: furniture, household junk, wood, drywall, yard brush, remodel debris.
  • 7-yard only: concrete, dirt, rock, sod, brick, and roofing or shingles.
  • Can't take: batteries, chemicals, and electronics.
  • Wet or sludge loads: call first so we can talk it through.
  • Not sure? Tell us when you book and we'll sort it out.

Heavy material goes in the 7-yard

Concrete, dirt, rock, sod, brick, and roofing are too dense for the weight limits on the bigger cans, so they go in the 7-yard. Keep that load clean, just the heavy material, and it goes to the recycle plant instead of the landfill. Mix in wood or household junk and the whole load has to go to the landfill, so it's worth keeping the heavy stuff on its own. More on renting for concrete and dirt or a roofing tear-off.

What we can't take

A few things can't go in any of our cans, mostly for safety and disposal rules: batteries, wet paint, chemicals and solvents, motor oil and fuels, propane tanks, tires, and electronics. Those have to be handled separately. Appliances with refrigerant, like a fridge or an AC unit, need the refrigerant pulled first, so mention those on the call. Got a wet or sludge-type load? Call first and we'll let you know whether a container works for it.

A closer look at what goes in

Household cleanouts. Furniture, mattresses, carpet, clothes, boxes, toys, and general clutter from a garage, attic, basement, or a whole-house cleanout. If it came out of the house and it isn't on the keep-out list, it goes in.

Remodel and construction debris. Wood, drywall, cabinets, flooring, tile, trim, fixtures, and framing lumber. Most of what a remodel or a small demo produces loads into any of our sizes.

Yard and storm debris. Brush, limbs, branches, leaves, and old fencing. Dirt and sod are heavy, so those ride in the 7-yard with the other dense material.

What Fits in a Charleston Dumpster: FAQ

Can I put concrete or dirt in a dumpster?

Yes, in the 7-yard, which is built for heavy clean loads. Keep it to clean material so it can go to the recycle plant.

Can I throw out furniture and mattresses?

Yes. Furniture, mattresses, carpet, and general household junk all go in any of our sizes.

Do you take appliances?

Most, yes. Appliances with refrigerant, like a fridge or an AC unit, need the refrigerant pulled first, so mention those on the call.

What absolutely can't go in?

Batteries, wet paint, chemicals and solvents, motor oil and fuels, propane tanks, tires, and electronics. Those have to be handled separately.

What if I'm not sure about something?

Tell us what you've got when you book and we'll sort it out. When in doubt, ask before you load it.
